September 15, 2017 - Sushi Mori - Better late than never, amiright?!?

We were kid free on September 15 and decided to go out to dinner. The first place we tried was CRAZY busy ... we had to scramble to find somewhere else to go.

Finally decided on Sushi Mori - we had not been here in a LONG time. Last time we had been was when it was in the old location, before it had burnt down. It's in the same complex in Eagle Ridge, just tucked into the corner, where a gym or MMA place used to be.

It was busy as well, but not as busy as the first place (thankfully). It took maybe about 15 minutes before we were seating a lovely little table that fit both of us nicely ... would probably squeeze three in a pinch. The decorations and lighting I think is what really makes this place special. They have a big giant cherry blossom tree in the centre that is lit and then lighting all throughout. This is similar to the original restaurant.

A ordered the following:

Dinner Plate A
8 piece Yam Tempura
8 piece Spring Roll
Side of rice

I ordered the following:

Ebi Mayo
Green Dragon Roll

The dinner plate came with chicken teriakyi, california roll, dynamite roll, gomae & miso soup. Since A doesn't like the rolls, I pretty much ate her rolls, her gomae and her miso soup.

The food was delicious. I'll post pictures of what I've got.

We will definitely be going back again, maybe bringing the boy with us (MAYBE) and will try to make a reservation as well.

Until next time

Spontaneous Picnic - September 12, 2017

A decided that we would have a nice impromptu picnic at Barnet Marine Park tonight. We didn't tell B we were going, so he was nicely surprised.

https://www.burnaby.ca/Things-To-Do/Explore-Outdoors/Shorelines---Lakes/Barnet-Marine-Park.html

This park really is a hidden jem. I don't think enough people either think to come here or just don't bother to come here. The views are absolutely gorgeous and there is so much space. Lots of picnic tables and area for blankets. They even have bathrooms!!!

Two downsides ... parking sucks. It's a bit of a walk and the closer parking fills up fast. But, if you are used to White Pine Beach across the water ... you'll know about parking congestion.

Second is the geese. There are geese and then there are CANADIAN GEESE. These suckers ain't afraid. Ain't afraid of sh*t, so don't think you can scare them off. I found it was much easier to just kinda let them meander around us. If one got too close, a quick "HEY" was all it took to move it back.

All in all a great evening spent in just outside our own city, (as the park is technically in Burnaby) enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Until next time!

Bellingham, WA - September 9 & 10, 2017

Since we live just across the border, we visit Washington state A LOT ... we visit a lot of the cities and town close to the border all the way to Idaho and almost to Oregon.

We haven't really traveled much down into Oregon ... maybe as B gets older, we can handle the talking more because he won't be talking as much. LOL

So, for this weekend, we stayed, for the first time at the Super 8 in Ferndale. We had driven "by" it several times - really stopping at the McDonald's by it on the way home to grab a quick burger or drink before the border wait.

We forgot to take a picture of the room or breakfast area, but A did get a picture of the pool. I will say the the room does look like the photo online. The bed was comfortable but the room was small. The chairs also didn't "fit" ... they had like a dining room chair in the corner where one would expect to see a comfortable chair - but that's really splitting hairs.

The breakfast area ... it was pretty lean. We've stayed at a lot of places, and most places have at least bagels. This place offered coffee, juice, white & brown bread for toasting, blueberry muffins QUARTERED (!!!), Raisin Bran & Froot Loop cereals, hard boiled eggs, yogurts and waffles. The juice was watery and I've already mentioned the fact there were no bagels ... I mean HELLO??!! Hahaha

If this place was the cheapest stay ... A says she would stay again.

Photo: The pool, website's photo looks better but they are pretty similar.

We ate dinner on September 9 at Westside Pizza. This isn't really a sit down place although they do have a handful of booths/tables available. We ordered a walk-in special for $15.99 and B wanted wings. Total for the bill was just over $25 with tip.

Lunch on September 10 was Taco Bell. Really don't have to say much about Taco Bell. Maybe the only thing is that B tried Diablo, Fire & Mild sauces ... in that order. Kid is crazy sometimes. Diablo wasn't really that hot, but I'm sure if you ate a lot it would be a killer.

Anyways ... that's it for the weekend. We didn't stop at any shops that we out of the ordinary so no need to mention them here.

Until next time!!

Blog for our travels

A & I decided a while ago that it would be a good idea to start keeping track of the places that we go to when we travel and if we liked them or not - this was mainly due to the fact that I can't remember anything and all hotels pretty much look the same.

And yes people ... once you have stayed in as many Quality Inns and Best Westerns and Comfort Inns and all the other places we have tried ... they all look the same.

Creating this will allow us to easily update with pictures and information as we go, instead of relying on the old noggin to do it for us. And my noggin is getting worse. A won't admit it but so is her's.

We will also keep track of restaurants too and try to post photos of everything. Because those photos never tell you the real thing, am I right?

So, without further ado ... here we go!
